PCV D1, CPC Module 4 Training Course
Emergency First Aid at Work & Paediatric Training.
What is MiDAS Car & MPV Training?
MiDAS Car & MPV is an extension of the nationally recognized Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme (MiDAS). It is a membership based scheme designed to enhance driving standards and provide car drivers with the information they need to deliver safe and comfortable transport for their passengers. It is also intended to assist the operators of smaller vehicles in meeting their health and safety obligations.
This scheme is organised by the CTA UK (Community Transport Association U K) which promotes a nationally recognized standard for the assessment and training of non-professional drivers.
CTA UK has appointed a number of training agents, who provide training for Driver Assessor/Trainers (DAT’s) nominated from member organizations. A DAT or Car & MPV Observer can then assess the competence of other drivers, and provide them with training on how to safely use vehicles.
TwC-Training Services has a qualified Training Agent who delivers all of our driver training and has been delivering MiDAS training courses for over 10 years. Typically course content includes:
- Legal responsibilities
- Defensive driving
- Breakdown Procedures & passenger safety
- The legal obligations of carrying a wheelchair user
- The types of passenger lift available & and how to safely use them
- How to securely fix a wheelchair to the vehicle
- Best practice on wheelchair users getting in & out of the vehicle.
– Who is the course aimed at?
This course is suitable for drivers working or volunteering for any organization operating cars or MPVs, ranging from small voluntary organizations operating one vehicle, to local authorities operating large fleets of minibuses, as well as schools, colleges, nursing homes and universities.
– How long does this course take?
This training course is delivered in 2 parts and last a whole day. Delegates attend a highly interactive classroom session in the morning and a Practical Assessment in the afternoon. Where the delegate(s) have access to a wheelchair accessible car, then we prefer to provide the training using their own vehicle and equipment.
This helps us to ensure that the course is specific to the circumstances of the particular vehicle and driver(s) concerned. Where applicable, the trainer will also be able to give advice on whether you have the correct/sufficient equipment for safely transporting a wheelchair user.
There is an on-road element, where drivers undertake an (Observed Drive) during which they can demonstrate the skills learned in the classroom. However, the scheme recognizes that some drivers may be using their own vehicles and for this reason the organization has the option to (opt out) of the Observed Drive.
Each Observed Drive may take up to one hour and a half depending on the delegate`s driving skills. The assessment route takes into consideration a wide range of road conditions. The Assessor/Observer provides feedback and advice to the candidate during the drive.
– What do drivers get out of the training?
Drivers who successfully complete the training course and the observed drive, will receive a nationally recognized certificate valid for four years and a comprehensive course material.
ALL COURSES INCLUDE CERTIFICATES HANDOUTS AND DRIVER`S MANUALS.
